Alameda Architectural Preservation Society Presentation Sunday, August 20, 2006
3:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Come join us for the annual Woody Walk
This year, the Woody Walk ventures into new territory.
We leave the leafy lanes of the Gold Coast for the
stage-set fantasies of Fernside Neighborhood, where we will wander
through a historical theme park of California
haciendas, Andalusian farmhouses, Tudor retreats,
Colonial manses, and medieval manorettes.
Developed on the site of a 100-acre Victorian estate,
Fernside was the Island City's biggest
subdivision in the years between the two world
wars--laid out in 1925 and mostly developed by 1941.
There are also good examples to be found of Ranch
House design from the 1930s to the 1950s, and a few
fine Victorians on the fringes of the neighborhood to
get us started. Come one, come all, and partake of yet
another facet of the architectural jewel that is
Alameda.
